The Birth to Five Project
The web site was created
for the Birth to Five Project. Part of
the Early Childhood Funders' Collaborative's Build Initiative, the Birth to Five Project
is a statewide effort to build a comprehensive system to ensure all Illinois children
are safe, healthy, eager to learn, and ready to succeed by the time they enter school.
The Project brings together early childhood practitioners, government agency staff,
health care providers, advocates, researchers and others to identify and develop solutions
to system gaps and barriers. The Ounce of Prevention Fund manages the Project. For
more information about the Ounce of Prevention Fund please visit our website www.ounceofprevention.org.
The primary purpose of this site is to provide information
on early childhood programs administered by multiple state and federal agencies and
comparative community demographic data to describe the context in which these programs
exist. This tool will allow for assessment of community needs and availability of
services for pregnant women and families with young children in a geographical context. This
site can be used to:
- Help
inform program planning and funding processes (e.g. identifying underserved areas),
identify areas of potential duplication
- Raise
awareness of available programs among providers, physicians and families. Provide
information on program eligibility and how to access programs
- Improve
collaboration at the local level by providing a consistent source of information on
programs and services available in a community
